This preserve is very special as it is the second-best example in the State of a globally imperiled forest type – Beech-Oak-Maple Flatwoods. This wet forest is filled with huge trees and a terrific understory filled with native species that are beneficial to the mind, body, and spirit.
The late Robert (Bob) Rinsky was devoted to his family, friends, and this land. We learned of his desire to protect the land forever and worked with him and his family to follow his lead and now it will be protected forever for all to enjoy. The Rinsky family has been associated with the property since the early 1900s and worked with many families to farm the land as much of it is farmed today.
With a complete circular mile of trail throughout the preserve, you get to see the magnificent towering trees that are the biggest in the region. Green Dragon and Jack-in-the-pulpit plants grow over three feet tall in these rich wetland soils. There is also a native population of Cardinal Flower – our personal favorite.
