Land Owner Resources

Dear Landowner

You may want your land to remain forever free from any future development. Or, you may want to plan for limited uses that preserve the special character of your land.

Either way, you have the right to determine today what happens to your land in the future. It is a great power, and a choice you can make to permanently protect your land from unwanted future development, or, plan for uses that preserve the special character of your family’s land.

Land protection options to legally preserve your land are made available by Cardinal. These include the Conservation Easement and fee simple land preservation. If you decide to take action now, you can rest assured that your desires to preserve your land are legally established.

Conservation
Easements

A Conservation Easement (CE) provides a time-honored and legal way for families to preserve their lands. It assures landowners that their wishes for preservation of their property will be honored forever.

Fee Simple
Conservation

In Fee Simple Conservation, landowners donate the land to Cardinal for preservation and do not maintain ownership, although some terms may be tailored to the needs of the donors and their families.

Mature Forests

The strongest forests are over 100 years old, climate resilient, climate connected, and large enough to make a difference to the native plants and animals that reside there.

Ecologically Sound

Urban Open Space

Our newest addition to our mission, we have the capacity to protect urban environment lands more effectively than our government partners.

Recreational Green Space

Connection with nature makes a positive impact on our physical and mental health. We seek to make it easier for our members and the public to access and enjoy the last great places.
